New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh has named quarterback J.J. McCarthy as the starter for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, CBS NFL and Yahoo Sports reported. McCarthy replaces Jameis Winston after coming off the bench during the fourth quarter of last week's game, where he led three scoring drives over the final 10 minutes. [1][3]

The third-year quarterback joined the franchise four weeks ago, according to CBS NFL. McCarthy takes over the starting role as rookie starter Jaxson Dart remains out for the remainder of the season. CBS NFL reported that the Giants enter Sunday's contest seeking a victory before their upcoming bye week, which could bring their record to 4-2-1. [1][6]

The quarterback change coincides with roster adjustments in the backfield. Yahoo Sports reported that the Giants released running back Najee Harris. Head coach John Harbaugh addressed the decision, leaving the running back group to feature Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary. [3][4]

Harbaugh also commented on rumors regarding retired 49-year-old quarterback Tom Brady, calling the concept of a potential NFL return a fantasy, Yahoo NFL reported. Harbaugh questioned whether Brady could withstand the physical demands of playing behind an offensive line after retiring in 2022. [2][5][7]
