Giants linebacker Tremaine Edmunds out for season with shoulder injury

New York Giants inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds will miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season because of a shoulder injury, Yahoo NFL, Yahoo Sports Top, and ProFootballTalk reported. Edmunds sustained the injury while attempting to make a tackle late in a Week 6 loss against the New Orleans Saints. The Giants officially ruled him out for their Week 7 game against the Houston Texans after he missed practice all week. [1][3][4][5][8]

Before his injury, Edmunds was the leading tackler for the Giants through their first six games of the season. Yahoo NFL and Yahoo Sports Top noted that the Giants enter Week 7 with a 3-2-1 record and lead the NFC East division. The team also ruled out cornerback Greg Newsome II for Sunday's matchup at NRG Stadium against the 2-4 Texans, according to the Associated Press, Yahoo Sports Top, and Giants.com. [1][3][6][8]

Edmunds played college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies from 2015 to 2017 before being selected 16th overall by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons with Buffalo from 2018 to 2022, where he amassed over 100 tackles in each season and earned Pro Bowl selections. [13]

The loss of Edmunds creates a test for the Giants depth chart as they prepare to visit Houston on Sunday, Yahoo Sports Top reported. The team will be forced to adjust their defensive lineup without their starting linebacker for the remaining games of the campaign. [1][2][3][11]
