Spanish football authorities have suspended Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr for four matches, according to BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports. The suspension follows a red card for pulling the hair of Nathan Saliba during a 1-0 victory against Villarreal, BBC Sport reported. Manager Jose Mourinho criticised the timing of the decision after it was released hours before Real Madrid played Roma in the Champions League, BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports reported. [1][2][3][4]

The RFEF Disciplinary Committee confirmed the ban shortly before the match, according to Yahoo Sports. Mourinho described the timing of the announcement as shameless and questioned why authorities made the statement two hours before an important match for Spanish football, BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports reported. Because of the suspension, Vinicius Jr will miss upcoming matches against Sevilla on 18 October, Barcelona in El Clasico on 25 October, Racing Santander on 1 November, and Valencia on 7 November, according to BBC Sport. The Brazil international forward plays for La Liga club Real Madrid. [1][10]
