Authorities in Portugal have suspended a decision to end witness protection for computer hacker Rui Pinto, BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports reported. Pinto, the 37-year-old founder of the Football Leaks website, was scheduled to leave the protection programme on Saturday. Yahoo Sports confirmed that Portuguese authorities officially verified on Friday that he will remain under police protection. [1][2]

Pinto disclosed confidential football documents that helped trigger a Premier League financial investigation into Manchester City. Yahoo Sports reported that Pinto has been a protected witness since 2020, after he agreed to grant Portuguese authorities access to millions of gathered files. Pinto had previously stated that ending his protection would place him in a life-threatening situation, according to BBC Sport. [1][2]

The Premier League investigation into Manchester City recently concluded with an independent commission finding the club guilty of the majority of 115 financial charges brought against them, Yahoo Sports and BBC Football reported. [4][5]
