Five-star point guard Reese Alston committed to play for LSU and head coach Will Wade on Thursday. Reports from Yahoo College Basketball, Yahoo Sports, The Advocate, USA Today, On3, Yardbarker, and ClutchPoints confirmed that the 2027 prospect chose the Southeastern Conference program over other suitors, including Kentucky. Alston is the son of former NBA point guard Rafer Alston. ESPN college basketball reporters Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello confirmed the recruiting decision, according to Yahoo College Basketball. [1][2][8][9][12]

Separately, LSU coach Will Wade declined on Thursday to answer questions regarding the status of guard RJ Luis Jr. Reports from the Associated Press, Audacy, News-Times, WRAL, and WBOC TV noted that Wade refused to discuss the matter. [3][4][5][6][7]

The Associated Press reported that Luis won a temporary restraining order on Wednesday. The legal order could allow him to play for LSU if Wade chooses to add him to the active roster. [6]

As FTMQ Sports reported earlier, Wade had previously ceased appeals concerning the eligibility of Luis, who was ruled ineligible for the 2026-27 season. LSU did receive positive news on forward Saliou Niang, who was cleared to compete ahead of the upcoming season. [14]
