Florida State appoints Ernie Sims interim defensive coordinator following staff firings

Florida State University has named Ernie Sims as its interim defensive coordinator, Yahoo College Football, Yahoo Sports, Tomahawk Nation, and 247Sports all reported. The university promoted Greg Moss to safeties coach as part of the staff changes, according to Yahoo College Football. [1][2][3][4]

The coaching adjustments follow the dismissal of head coach Mike Norvell, Yahoo College Football reported. Florida State also terminated defensive coordinator Tony White and safeties coach Evan Cooper. Yahoo College Football noted that Cooper was in his second season with the Florida State football program. [1]

Sims played for Florida State from 2003 to 2005, recording 200 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He helped the program win 27 games and two Atlantic Coast Conference titles, earning first-team All-American honors in 2004. The Detroit Lions selected Sims ninth overall in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft, and he later played 109 games across eight seasons in the NFL. [5]
