According to Sky Sports, Manchester City entered the match having won all six of their opening Women's Super League fixtures. Manchester United had entered the contest building momentum under manager Eva Olid. The hosts looked more likely to score first after a tense initial half, Sky Sports reported. [2][4]
The result marked a turnaround in form for Manchester United compared to the previous month, according to BBC Football. Ahead of the fixture, Olid had stated to the club channel MUTV that her side planned to rely on their mentality to compete against the reigning league leaders, Yahoo Sports reported. [4][6]
Manchester City, founded in 1880 as St. Mark's before taking their current name in 1894, had their winning run halted despite their strong opening to the campaign. The club plays its home fixtures at the City of Manchester Stadium. [13]
