Brigham Young University defeated Notre Dame 28-24 at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. CBS College Football and Notre Dame Fighting Irish reported that the junior quarterback CJ Carr struggled in the four-point loss, which leaves Notre Dame facing an upcoming matchup against top-ranked Miami. [1][3][4][10]

During the game, Carr suffered a botched fumble while attempting to spike the ball to clock it at the end of the first half. Yahoo Sports reported that BYU defender Justin Kirkland stated he yelled "hut" before the play to trick Carr into fumbling the ball before officials took action. [2][11]

Carr was previously projected as a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft according to CBS College Football. As FTMQ Sports reported earlier, Carr was also named one of fifteen semifinalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. [1][15]

The 28-24 victory marked an upset win for BYU, whose fans rushed the field following the conclusion of the contest, Yahoo College Football reported. [3][5]
