Former University of Michigan football coach Biff Poggi revealed that he was a finalist for the team's head coaching job and expected to be hired. Yahoo College Football, On3, and Saturday Down South reported that Poggi completed four interviews for the position before Michigan ultimately selected Kyle Whittingham instead. [1][3][5]
Poggi had served as the interim head coach at the University of Michigan after the program fired head coach Sherrone Moore. He previously returned to the Michigan staff in 2025, serving in the same role he held with the team from 2021 to 2022. [6]
Before his recent stint at Michigan, Poggi served as the head football coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2023 to 2024. His background also includes more than 20 years as a high school football coach in Baltimore at Gilman School and Saint Frances Academy. [6]
Poggi played college football as an offensive lineman at the University of Pittsburgh and Duke University during the late 1970s and early 1980s. He also worked for nearly four decades in the finance industry as a hedge fund manager before transitioning to full-time coaching in 2016. [8]
