Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday during his 14th season. CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, and the New York Times reported that Johnson stepped away four games into the season due to personal reasons and to focus on his mental health. Johnson had missed the team's Week 4 game prior to his announcement. [1][2][3][5][7][9][11][12]

According to Yahoo Sports, Johnson shared the news in a social media post. CBS Sports reported that his exit comes after missing action for personal reasons. The move leaves the Eagles with growing depth issues along the offensive line, where guard Landon Dickerson is currently on injured reserve after suffering an injury in Week 1. [1][2][5][11]

Johnson was selected fourth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL draft after playing college football for the Oklahoma Sooners and Kilgore Rangers. During his 14 seasons with Philadelphia, he made three Super Bowl appearances, won two championships, was named a six time Pro Bowl selection, and earned two first team All-Pro honors. [13]
