Luca Marini has withdrawn from the Australian Grand Prix after being declared unfit due to a viral infection, as reported by Yahoo Sports, Autosport, and Crash.net. His withdrawal leaves the factory Honda team without any riders for the remainder of the race weekend at Phillip Island. Motorcycle Sports and Honda Racing reported that Marini was limited to just two laps during Friday practice before waiting for a medical assessment. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

Before his withdrawal, SPEEDWEEK.com reported that Marini expressed concern over his health, stating he had never experienced a similar illness before. The HRC garage subsequently remained closed as the team confirmed it would not contest the rest of the Australian MotoGP event. Yahoo Sports added that Marini joined other sidelined riders, including Joan Mir, Aleix Espargaro, and Takaaki Nakagami. [1][2][8]

In other track action at Phillip Island, Yahoo Sports reported that Marco Bezzecchi led an Aprilia 1-2-4-5 finish in Friday practice after recovering from a crash. Meanwhile, Ducati rider Marc Marquez stated he was targeting as many points as possible despite strong past performances from Aprilia at the circuit. [1]

Marini is an Italian Grand Prix motorcycle racer signed to Honda HRC Castrol who is set to join Red Bull KTM Tech3 in 2027. The Phillip Island circuit is one of the oldest motorsport venues in Australia, having first hosted the Australian Grand Prix in 1928. [9][10]

The field also faces potential weather disruptions at Phillip Island, with Yahoo Sports reporting a 100 percent forecast for rain ahead of the race. [1]
