Fourth-division side Fleetwood Town eliminated Premier League champions Arsenal from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night following a penalty shoot-out victory at Highbury Stadium. The match ended 1-1 after regular time before Fleetwood Town won 5-3 on penalties to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time, as reported by BBC Sport, Yahoo Sports, and RTE. [1][2][3][4][12]

Aaron Loupalo-Bi scored Fleetwood Town's opening goal during the match. In the shoot-out, Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved a spot-kick from Bruno Guimaraes. Fleetwood's teenage defender Conor Haughey then converted the winning penalty to secure the victory, Yahoo Sports reported. [3][4]

The fixture was delayed early in the first half after referee Michael Salisbury temporarily pulled players off the pitch due to an unauthorised drone flying over Highbury Stadium, Yahoo Sports reported. As FTMQ Sports reported earlier, the match was paused after one minute and 40 seconds of play for just over eight minutes while police investigated and located the drone. [5][7][17]

According to BBC Sport, Fleetwood Town are ranked 84 places below Arsenal in the English football pyramid. BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports noted that Arsenal are managed by Mikel Arteta, while Fleetwood Town are managed by Matt Lawlor. [1][2][6]
